Louis Smith returned from a World Cup Gymnastics event in Ghent, Belgium this weekend with an enhanced reputation as one of Europe’s leading Pommel Horse specialists. Following on from his European Final appearance 2 weeks ago, Louis sailed through the qualification rounds of this prestigious event with the 2nd highest score from 45 of the best gymnasts from around the globe.
In the Pommel Horse final he held his nerve completing a complex but secure routine to score 15.25 and winning the silver medal behind European Champion Krisztian Berki of Hungary with Ollenikov of Russia taking the Bronze.
This result means Louis is on course for a chance at making the Pommel Horse finals in the forthcoming World Championships in Stuttgart in September.
Globetrotting Smith travels to Moscow in a fortnight to compete in the next Grand Prix event with club mates Luke Folwell and Daniel Keatings who have also gained GB selection for this major event.
